Asking me to choose a favorite song is like asking me what my favorite food is – a nearly impossible question to answer. Whether due to it’s sentimental value, poetic and wise lyrics, or just the fact that it’s a classic, Bob Dylan’s Forever Young – his live version with Bruce is the best in my opinion – is my favorite song. I feel indebted to my dad, who taught me so much about good music and who quoted Dylan’s lyrics at my bat mitzvah (yes, I had one of those…ew embarrassing), to say that Forever Young is the best. I listen to it far less than my other “favorites,” but it is and always will be my number one.
May your hands always be busy
May your feet always be swift
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift
May your heart always be joyful
And may your song always be sung
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.
If the above stanza doesn’t inspire you, make you crack a tiny smile, or potentially melt your heart (in a good way), I suggest you try therapy, yoga, or just smile more often.
Some close seconds:
The Band – The Weight
The Band’s cover of Bruce Springsteen’s Atlantic City
Bruce Springsteen – Blinded by the Light
The Shins – New Slang
Please enjoy my very own recording of New Slang from this year’s Coachella…I had to use this even though it makes me cringe (you can hear my voice – I apologize)
